Getting Rid of Fruit Flies with Exterminators in MD
Every summer, fruit flies arrive and love to hover around our fresh produce. Not only are they annoying, but they can spread germs around your house. Find out how to keep them clear of your home, even if you haven’t identified their source.
Fruit flies like to appear near our unrefrigerated produce. Other common breeding grounds include near meat, sugary drinks and trash bins. Once you’ve identified where they’re breeding, address that area by eliminating their access. Don’t leave ripened fruits or vegetables exposed – until the flies have been eliminated, store these foods in the refrigerator. One key to getting rid of these pests is cleanliness, so wipe counters and empty trash cans regularly. Before dumping containers like take-out boxes and soda cans, rinse them thoroughly.
Many people have reported success with trapping these flies with homemade traps. Try placing a banana or other fruit into a plastic bag and poking a few small holes, allowing the flies to enter and get trapped inside. Repeat this process until the flies are gone. Alternatively, try a bowl filled with a fermented liquid like vinegar or wine, and mix with some dish soap.
